In Ghana, Ewe people call grasscutter xɔ or kpli. Akans call a grasscutter akranteɛ (plural: nkranteɛ) in the Twi language. Grasscutter is also called the greater cane rat. Its scientific name is Thryonomys swinderianus. It’s a well-known bush meat favourite, especially when smoked, grilled, or used in light soup. The big shift now is farmed grasscutter. That means cleaner handling, steadier supply, and less pressure on wild animals.
